Well, she was either going to give Alistair the amulet or the Grey Warden puppet from Feastday. But only one of those actually fit the tone of the story, so....
One thing I found in writing this is that it put an entirely different spin on all the decisions I was making in-game. I wasn't trying to affect any particular outcome as much as I was trying to pick the options that seemed most in-character for Kallian, and that did lead me to a few surprising places. In fact, the one she grew closest to most quickly was Sten and I would have loved to incorporate more of that into the story, but I had to save it for another day and another tale. The fic also lays bare what kind of character she became during the course of that play-through, and that was an awful lot of fun to realize after the fact.
I freely confess that those 55+-hours were some of the most fun I ever had researching for a story. Thank you for the absolutely beautiful and compelling prompt. It pandered to everything I love about the game, so... a perfect fit!
