I almost left out that "his bitch" line. It kept making me laugh, but it was the best choice for phrasing when all was said and done. What the hell, right?
Let me just say that I am absolutely thrilled to the bone that you like this, but you gave me such a great, encompassing prompt to work with that I could hardly wait to get started on it. It was really important for me to have both the good and bad in their relationship addressed, so telling it from Sam's POV meant I had to be extra-careful with Starbuck. I'm very glad her portrayal works for you. The thought of ending it on an unhappy note was something I just couldn't do: the series itself is bleak enough, so why not give a little respite while I could?
As it turns out, Sam and Kara are (in my ever so humble opinion) one of the best fictional couples out there. Not because they're perfect but because they're imperfect. Neither of them is better than the other, and so on that level they're pretty beautifully matched. They're like the tides: they have their ebb and flow, but ultimately they're a constant and I love that about them.
Thanks for such a great prompt, and for introducing me to the show in the first place! And, you know, for making this ficathon work so well. ♥
